A grid of slots, and things that snap into them
A board holds the grid, the power and the bus. Modules are cards that mate magnetically at any of four orientations and announce themselves the moment they have power. There are no jumpers, no DIP switches and no wrong way round.
The connector does four jobs
One part per edge carries the electrical contacts, the magnet that holds the module down and the feature that locates it. Bare pins with separate magnets were tried first: flat magnets give no lateral location, so the module can sit slightly wrong and still look right.

Every slot carries the same six pads on all four edges, so a module mates in any of four orientations. It reads its own rotation the moment it has power — before it transmits — and corrects its bus polarity itself. There is nothing to configure and no way to fit it wrong.

The grid is one number
A 40 mm slot with 10 mm between slots makes a 50 mm pitch, and the border is half the gap — so a board is exactly its column count times 50. Every consequence on this page falls out of that one choice, including the 10 mm channel your fingers use to lift a module out, and the fact that a module bought for the smallest board fits the largest unchanged.

Every board uses the same 50 mm pitch, so a module bought for the smallest one drops straight into the largest. Choose by how many slots you need — nothing you buy stops fitting later.
Every unit says what it is
Each product carries a fifteen-digit number, laser-engraved as a QR code. Scan it and you get the part — what it does, which revision you are holding, which firmware it takes.
The board asks the same question electrically. A module declares its number, its hardware revision, its firmware version and the voltage range it accepts before the board energises it — so a module that cannot take the bus voltage is refused rather than damaged.
Revision is deliberately absent — a number names a product, and the unit reports which revision it is over the bus.
